Apparent Misery
Jazwinski couldn’t hide his shock. He was not exactly the most touchy-feely person, and he was still feeling uncomfortable as the policeman who had stopped him for no reason at all was now requesting to be hugged. It was obvious to William, however, that the policeman desperately needed one. We generally think of cops as thick-skinned individuals who show little emotion while on the job. This policeman could not hold back the tears as he was overwhelmed with grief.

There was nothing normal about this need for warmth, as the policeman quickly began weeping, bringing another confession to the table. The policeman did not just need a hug from anyone, as there was some striking detail that William possessed that had touched the police officer deeply. He needed something that only William could give him, to ease his misery. Jazwinski simply couldn’t refuse him, even if this was an incredibly unusual request from a complete stranger.
