As if Richard and Emma had not been through enough, it was shortly after Richard discovered his own illness that Emma did hers: breast cancer. Of course, the couple was devastated, especially considering their own attempts at conceiving. Although Richard had been so tied up with all his legal and familial drama, he was able to support Emma through her difficulties with the same compassion and effort that she had his. They were lucky to have one another.

Treatment
Emma now had to face the pains of radiation and chemotherapy, prior to the finality of a mastectomy. From this point onward, she would have to undergo further surgeries, due to the destructiveness of her congenital cancer. This had been an incredibly traumatic and draining experience for Emma, whose body and mind had been pushed to the edge by the lengthy and trying illness and its brutal treatments. Incredibly, her spirit never broke, and she continued to put on a brave face through it all.
