Kelly may have been worried to see her husband so hysterical, but when he explained how and where he had found this enigmatic suitcase, she soon became infected with his wild enthusiasm. The mature couple placed the suitcase on their living room table and sat before it like children with their Halloween candy takings. Life becomes rather sedated when you enter your old age, but moments like these rarely happened for anyone of any age.

This could very well just be some trash which had somehow ended up in their basement. Rick agreed, realizing that this case would need to be resolved rationally. After all, they could have stumbled upon some long-buried criminal event. If they had come into possession of something illegal, then their lives were about to become worrisomely complicated.
