He Had To Pay

The deputy tried his best to get the driver to drop his car. After pleading endlessly, the officer finally agreed to pay forty dollars, an offer which the driver flatly rejected. The driver bravely maintained that one hundred dollars was the drop cost. Once again, the officer tried bargaining with fifty dollars, to which the cab driver replied by saying that he would soon need to move the cruiser even further and the officer would need to pay more than just one hundred dollars. Realizing he would not get the victory, the officer had to pull his wallet and pay it forward.

The officer embarrassedly handed over his owing balance to the satisfied (and highly entertained) driver, so that he could finally get back to his shamefully delayed police business. His wallet felt a lot lighter as he watched his cruiser gently touch the pavement. The hook was removed, and the deputy crawled back into the cruiser in a flash, then speeding off as if his life depended on it. Once the incensed officer left, the sergeant burst into raucous laughter, as did many others who were around. This was indeed a lesson the rookie had to learn the hard way.
