So, he awoke at the crack of dawn the following day and made his way to the mall. He wanted to purchase a camera that had a night vision feature. George dashed back home and set up the camera before driving off to work. When he returned home he looked at that day’s recording. He soon realized that he needed more footage. He would wait another day and hopefully have evidence of the larger problem.

When he plugged his camera into his PC and played the video, he realized that Crosby would only approach the wall when his owner was nearby. As George once more kneeled down beside his pooch to take a closer look at the point of interest, Crosby barked joyfully once more. George was looking to his dog for answers when he heard a thump within the wall that nearly stopped his heart. He could not believe that it had taken him this long to realize that something had made its way into the wall’s foundations!

He was amazed to find a gaping hole behind the screen, one that was large enough for him to squeeze his arm into. George steadied himself and passed his arm through the dark hole all the way up to his elbow. He felt around the space and his jaw dropped when his hand touched something terrifying.

Ignoring the flakes of drywall that were raining on the floor, George carefully wrapped his fingers around the thing and slowly drew it out as gently as possible. As George drew the clump out, he was disappointed to find that he had rescued a handful of filthy drywall. But Crosby barked excitedly again, and George knew that he was getting close. He could almost sense whatever was lurking in there. The man removed more debris and plunged deeper into the hole.

George was digging around the foundations of his home incredibly carefully. His arm was getting very dirty and uncomfortable, but he sensed that he was getting closer to Crosby’s detected target. George’s fingers brushed against another object, which he first thought was simply more insulation. He was about to move past it when he heard a piercing squeak! That was when his arm froze before his fingers softly curled around what he believed was some critter. He then began drawing his arm out gently with the animal in his palm.

George finally pulled his arm out the wall and there in his hand lay a scared, dirty, and starved kitten! All this time, the poor baby had been trapped in the foundations between the living room and bathroom. George was stunned, staring down at the wretched little thing that had somehow made its way deep into his property. He also couldn’t help but notice that the kitten resembled the neighbor’s old cat. George also became suspicious of his elated dog, who was thrilled to see the kitten finally freed.

George did not know what to do with this hidden resident, but he knew that the kitten was in desperate need of food, a bath, and some serious TLC. How had this baby been inserted into his drywall? All that George knew was that the kitten could not remain in the home, as he or she needed some serious care and attention. Crosby seemed incredibly protective of the kitten, and George glared suspiciously at his pooch, almost believing that the dog had snuck the kitten into their home to help with his loneliness.

George took the trembling kitten into the kitchen to begin cleaning it. Its fur was coated in dust, and George was worried that the kitten had ingested or inhaled a lot of drywall. With a damp cloth, George began wiping the squeaking kitten clean. Crosby was incredibly happy to see the kitten being taken care of. George was no feline expert, but the kitten seemed to be about two months old. George then poured some milk into a small dish for the starved kitten. He knew that he would not be able to care for this little creature, and hoped that its actual guardians were nearby.

George then began knocking on his neighbors’ doors inquiring about the kitten, but no one knew anything about the baby. Try as he might, George could not find anyone that knew anything about the kitten. The neighbors did hang posters around the street, but no one came forward to claim the kitten. One neighbor told George that they had seen the kitten wandering the streets, however. George then decided that the cat was a stray, and brought the kitten to a vet.

The vet took the kitten into her hands and saw that she had no real issues. In fact, she was flawlessly healthy! The only problems were that it was starved and grimy, but these issues could be handled quickly. The kitten had not been chipped, the vet realized, when they inspected the back of its neck. Time passed and the posters received little attention, and neither did the related post that George made on the community Facebook group. George was now presented with a hard choice…

While George was scratching his head as to what to do with the little kitten, he suddenly realized just how much joy the little feline was bringing his old pal Crosby. The two were getting along famously, which made George’s next option all the more heartbreaking. He had discussed the reality of the kitten being moved to a shelter. George was miserable at the thought, but he was convinced that he could not take the kitten on. That was until inspiration struck.

George was about to hand the kitten over to a nearby shelter when he learned what kind of fate he was sealing for her. This shelter was already overloaded with more than 300 kittens, far beyond its capacity, and a shelter worker assured George that his little friend would be put down. George was then handed an ultimatum by the employee. He could either leave the kitten to her fate in the streets and hope that she found her home, or adopt her as his own.

George was shocked to hear of the horrid things that could happen to this kitten, and so he finally decided that the kitten would stay with him and Crosby in their home. Of course, Crosby was delighted when George returned with the kitten in his hand, and together they welcomed the kitten to her new home. Crosby’s depression lifted when he realized that this kitten would be his new companion, one which George named Lil Ray-Ray. George would never let his best friend Crosby be sad or alone again.

George was initially apprehensive that the tiny and vulnerable kitten should be left alone with the big, excitable Crosby, but in a few days’ time, George saw what a loving relationship they had developed. Lil Ray-Ray would happily claw and nuzzle Crosby’s thick coat and snuggle up into his thick, warm fur for naps. George was amazingly paternal toward Lil Ray-Ray, showing amazing patience, even when he was used as the kitten’s personal scratching post!

While George went out of his way to make sure that this kitten was saved and cared for, for all her life, there are so many other animals out there that are in dire need of homes. Now that you know what grim fate awaits those that cannot find homes, you may have changed your mind about adoption. If you could not handle a permanent new resident, then fostering could be achievable, where you would only keep an animal for a short period of time until they could find a new home.

Our next story takes place in a far more desperate situation. It all began when an animal rescue organization called Hope for Paws was contacted on a rainy morning regarding a particular dog. A woman informed the worker that she had spotted a German shepherd mix in her area. She had tried to help him, but he was cowering beneath a car, too afraid of everyone around her to be lured out. This was a desperate situation for the pooch

Eldad Hagar and Loreta Frakoynte were the two members of Hope for Paws that would venture out to find the dog in question. Eldad was the organization’s founder, who would lead rescue missions across town. They agreed that this case needed special attention and they would be very careful – one that needed the captain himself and his most trusted and capable sidekick. To start things off, the duo purchased some cheeseburgers to tempt the hiding dog with.

Eldad and Loreta soon pulled up to the scene and greeted the woman that called them in, who then led them to the large van where the hound was hiding. Eldad crouched down and peeked under the van, where he saw the trembling dog, who was evidently terrified. Loreta neared the dog, who then cowered away from her, even when promised food. Were they going to get anywhere with this mission? It seemed like this dog was beyond help.

Loreta was not about to scare the wretched dog further, which is why she gently and steadily neared the dog. She had to be incredibly cautious, as the wrong move would startle the hound and scare him off. If the dog had fled the scene, it would have been much harder to rescue him, and he could have gotten hurt in the traffic. The dog could also turn on them, as terrified dogs often do, even if the rescuers were coming with a compassionate intent.

As Loreta got closer, the dog screeched out pitifully in a way that was disturbingly similar to a scared child. As heartbreaking as this squealing was, Loreta was determined to keep trying with this stranded animal. It was horribly frightened, and seemed to regard all humans as threats. Loreta could not imagine what horrors this dog had suffered, possibly at the hands of cruel people. Loreta felt miserable for the dog as she continued to try and help it.

Hope for Paws would record the entire situation and would later upload a video to YouTube. ‘At first we thought she was hurt but she cried because she was so scared,” Loreta commented. To get a better understanding of the situation, we strongly recommend that you watch the video yourself, called ‘Homeless German Shepherd cries like a human! I have never heard anything like this!!!’ Fair warning, if you are sensitive to upset animals, then this video is heartbreaking.

Try as she might, Loreta could not tempt the dog to come out from out of the van with the cheeseburger. But as time passed, albeit slowly and painfully, the dog’s cries became less intense and she seemed to be taking more interest in the cheeseburger. It must have been completely famished, and eventually, it cautiously approached a piece of the cheeseburger that Loreta had left on the ground near the dog and hungrily gobbled it down. The crying did not stop then, despite the dog’s hysteria having calmed slightly.

The woman that had summoned Loreta and Eldad had no further information on the dog, and the duo was at a loss as to where this dog had come from and if it had once been owned by someone. Loreta might have been doing her best to help the dog, but she was not about to let her guard down, as the dog could have attacked her out of fear at any minute. She never threw caution to the wind while striving to calm the trembling dog down.

Despite her fears of being attacked, Loreta was brave and compassionate enough to know that this dog needed desperate help. It was also a waiting game, as it seemed that hours were passing with little progress. This was a big dog, and Loreta did not know if it had rabies or not. Although many people will come with the best intentions when they try to help cornered dogs, they often fail to consider that it might lash out in terror.

The goal was simple (despite how difficult it was all turning out): to safely extract the dog from its hiding place without anyone getting hurt, including the dog. Was this too much to ask for? Thankfully, Loreta did not come empty-handed. She had a commonly used tool for rescuing dogs that is used to safely capture a dog. It is a long leash that is looped at one end, which will be fastened securely around a dog’s neck without choking it.

While we generally think of dogs as sweet and lovable animals, there are many, especially out on the street, that have been reduced to survival mode. This means that their instincts have taken over, which involves a lot of fear. Many strays, especially those that have been attacked more than once, will regard any human or animal as a threat and will react in the only way that they know how: with a vicious bite!

Thankfully, Loreta had brought a cheeseburger with her. We all know that dogs love treats, and the scared pooch was obviously very interested in munching more, despite its apprehension. When it comes to baiting hiding dogs from their hiding places, food is the best way, especially something as strong smelling and tasty as a cheeseburger! But would this dog continue to resist the trap? Certainly, it was overwhelmed by fear, and no matter how hard Loreta tried, it seemed pinned down by terror.

While the dog had initially shown an interest in the cheeseburger, even when Loreta left it near the dog, it was too afraid to come out of its safe place and eat. There seemed to be an inner struggle within the dog, where its desperate need for nourishment was battling with its overwhelming fear of the world. Loreta was shocked to see the dog back away from the burger and retreat back under the car. She had never seen a dog turn away from a treat, no matter how scared.

No matter how terrified a dog is, it will eventually swallow its fear to eat. At least that was Loreta and her team’s experience. But this dog was so devastated by trauma that it could not even listen to its body’s desperate hunger. Loreta was incredulous when she, for the first time, watched a dog turn its back on a delicious meal. The team felt stumped, and had to now come up with another plan of action.

Loreta was struggling to win the dog’s trust. The day was dragging on torturously, but despite how uncooperative the dog was being, Loreta and Eldad were empathetic enough to not become frustrated. They also could not just lunge for the dog and try to snare it with the loop, as that could hurt the dog, or on the other hand, the dog could attack in defense. These were expert dog rescuers, and they knew better than that.

That being said, Loreta was running out of options and time. Although she was dedicated to helping this dog, she and Eldad did not have all the time in the world. Loreta then took things a step further, despite having been hesitant to confront the dog, and tried throwing the snare around the dog’s neck like a lasso. This did not work, of course, and the dog merely coiled away. It was clear that getting physical in any way with the quivering pooch was out of the question.

The last thing that Loreta wanted to do was undo what little progress she had made with the dog, and worse, to scare it even further and risk chasing it off. The only way that this situation would have a happy ending would be if the dog managed to calm down enough to approach the humans. Their usual methods were clearly not working, and Loreta and Eldad knew that they would need to get creative.

But as Loreta and Eldad tried to come up with their next tactic, the dog must have sensed that they were going to try something else, and it dashed from under the car and into a very tight gap between two structures. That was when Eldad and Loreta quickly dashed to both ends of the crack to ensure that the dog was trapped. Their quick reflexes and experience came into action and they finally had the dog trapped.

The game had changed as the dog had dashed off into a place where, despite feeling safe, was clearly completely blocked off. Loreta fastened a net on her end, while Eldad waited expectantly on the other. The dog was now starting to despair, realizing that it had nowhere else to flee. The miserable look on its face was enough to break your heart. Eldad and Loreta could not squeeze into the narrow gap, and all that they could do now was wait things out.

Loreta and Eldad only had one option left, and that was to calmly and lovingly talk the dog out of its new shelter. Eldad recorded the entire situation as he and Loreta continued to call out to the dog in a reassuring and inviting tone. While dogs might not be able to fully understand what we say to them, they can register tone and emotion. Hopefully, this dog’s paranoia would be soothed by their sweet voices.

The pooch continued whining, but in time, its performance began to quieten as it finally began to listen to the humans properly for the first time. Instead of constantly whining, the dog would occasionally pause and seemed to be sincerely considering the inviting calls of the rescuers. This inspired the now tired Loreta and Eldad, who had renewed hope and confidence that the dog would finally come out. But there was still much work to be done.

Despite having made some progress, the dog was still clearly too afraid to do anything, as its large ears drooped low, which was generally a sign of intense fear and despair. But the rescuers never stopped trying to reassure the dog and convince it that they meant no harm. It seemed to finally be working, as the dog was starting to seem less scared. In a few minutes’ time, the pooch’s hysteria ended and it began to calm.
