Managing Symptoms
One would generally take antibiotics when the collecting mucus becomes bacterial. This medication is effective for the treatment of cystic fibrosis and is best swallowed in pill form or inhaled. More severe cases will require an intravenous application. Antibiotics can be quite harmful to the human body when taken frequently, as they also kill plenty of healthy and essential bacteria in our systems. This means that people with cystic fibrosis must also take plenty of probiotics, too.
Eating Healthily
Cystic fibrosis attacks the digestive system and so patients must get expert dietary instruction. This goes beyond the usual instruction of the average dietician, as the nutritional guidance needed by cystic fibrosis patients is quite complex and thorough. A strict and complete diet is essential, and those with cystic fibrosis must be very careful to keep an incredibly diverse diet. Further, to combat malnutrition, supplements are recommended, as even with an incredible diet, those with cystic fibrosis might need extra help in this department.
