Richard had nothing left to lose, to put it plainly, and he had the money and time to take his needs for revenge the full way.

Well, Richard did not exactly have everything to lose, as there was one incredibly special and dedicated person in his life that had stood by him through it all. Richard is lucky to have Emma, his current wife. She has really eased the trauma he is experiencing. Emma is unable to fall pregnant due to the effects of cancer. It was her affection for him that curbed his misery and helped him work through the distress.

They were lucky to have one another.

Emma now had to face the pains of radiation and chemotherapy, prior to the finality of a mastectomy. This had been an incredibly traumatic and draining experience for Emma, whose body and mind had been pushed to the edge by the lengthy and trying illness and its brutal treatments. Incredibly, her spirit never broke, and she continued to put on a brave face through it all.
