A Civilized Response
Obviously, Richard couldn’t take a violent approach, so he pondered on what the proper reaction was. He was adamant that he would follow the moral path which he had instilled in his sons, one of plain honesty. Richard was pushed to extreme tactics due to Kate’s stubbornness and complete refusal to cooperate. Richard was doggedly pursuing the path that leads to the truth, no matter what the costs were. This was simply the kind of man that he was.

Disappointment
Richard was disappointed knowing that he would have to engage in an ugly lawsuit. His world had been shattered. It was the dual effects of being diagnosed with a severe illness, coupled with the learning of his delusional fatherhood which hit him so hard. This was enough stress to drive anyone to extreme actions and behaviors, with lawsuits being comparatively tame compared to some of the more explosive reactions that other men in Richard’s shoes suffered.
