It’s All Painful
Richard would not need to elaborate on the full meaning of his disease and its place in their relationship. As it turned out, the son was clever enough to put the pieces together in a calm manner. The son had gathered from his father’s description of infertility associated with cystic fibrosis that it was less than possible that they could be physically related. The son had already realized that Richard was most likely not his biological father.
Facing Up

What Richard wanted to tell his son was impossibly hard, but the young man was quicker to the point. Richard made a point of telling his son, Will, that genetics could never trump their relationship.
