As Sallade explained to Wired in June 2019, “since the snake had received such an incredible amount of media attention, there was a great deal of pressure on me to keep that monster alive.” Sallade had to compel the creature to eat to extend its life, which was the last resort. It was clear that despite his best attempts, he would be unable to save the snake, which expired dead many months later.

And, in the end, Sallade believed that death was the best option for the animal’s wellbeing. ‘If it had been a snake that had been born in my collection, I wouldn’t have told anybody about it,’ he said in an interview with Wired magazine. I would have probably put it down myself since just being alive was proving to be too much of an ordeal for the snake.
