The Ring Passes Onto Lydia
Lydia might have found an immense amount of comfort from wearing the ring, but the more that she stared at it, the stranger it began to look and feel. Had her mother truly stolen this ring? The entire story started sounding farfetched to the surviving daughter, who had never known her mother to break any kind of law, let alone steal a precious item. Holes were starting to form in the tale and Lydia was starting to doubt her mother’s honesty.

Sara had only done her best to be the most ideal mother imaginable to Lydia, and her daughter had only ever known her as a mother. It was weird for Lydia to imagine what her mother might have been like before she became a parent, but these were strange thoughts that made Lydia uncomfortable, and she did her best not to go down the rabbit hole. But no matter how hard someone tries to run away from the truth, it always ends up catching up with them.
