Your living room is where you make most of your memories with friends and family, as it is a central shared space. So, your decorative skills and style will say a lot about you and your image. As such, you should be mindful of how you decorate so it doesn’t have that tacky look that will leave others thinking – what the hell?! Here are a few decor styles you don’t want in your home.
Put Up the Shot Glasses

Put Up The Shot Glasses
This may be one of the tackiest we have ever seen, and though it is a great collection, you want to leave them in a private cabinet and only bringing them out when you are going to use them. The glass collection from around the world is not “everybody’s business.” You might give people the wrong impression by displaying this many dozens of shot glasses, making people think that you have an out of control drinking problem.
Ditch the Stand-out Colors
There are countless ways to complimenting a room with colors than adding it to the wall. You may want to leave the shocking and bold colors off the walls and probably incorporate them with a few cushions or artificial flowers. The pea-green theme does not work for any home, and makes one think of a small town in England somewhere that has not been blessed with the classic British countryside beauty. Try to go for tones that are not reminiscent of green beans.

Ditch The Stand Out Colors
Avoid Small Rugs
There is nothing more distasteful than decking your living room floor with small rugs that only one piece of furniture can fit on. After all, the purpose of a rug is to pull a room together, so don’t forget that tip. How do you think you will look in a t-shirt that is way too small? Yeah, stupid, we know. This miniature rug also makes the room feel far more cramped than it actually is, and does nothing but hold the shadow of the coffee table it rests under.

Avoid Small Rugs
Don’t Use Temporary Furniture
DIY projects are great and can complement any area with class and elegance, but when it turns into a weird disaster, leave it out of the living room. Who thought to team four crates together would be a great idea for a shelf? This choice really doesn’t do anything for your living room other than making it feel more like a barnyard than a home. Rather save the crates for your next farmers’ market trip than to prop your television up with.

Don’t Use Temporary Furniture
Say No To Weird-Shaped Lambs
It is best to use a single one-lampshade lamp for your living room than going for some weird-shaped and multi-shade lamp. It can be a designer lamp, but when it has multiple colors…leave it out. This fixture looks incredibly weird before you even turn the lights on, and when you do, you might not appreciate the rainbow selection unless you want to be reminded of a theatre show or a night at the circus with the kids.

Say No To Weird Shaped Lambs
Futon Sofas Don’t Fit
Futon sofas are for those who desire to create a vintage-style room in their house but not the main living room. They are too outdated and college-style to be used in your home. It is better to get a regular sofa and stack that one elsewhere. You can bet that you would not be very comfortable sitting on this bench when you have no back support and you are afraid that you will fall backward at any minute.

Futon Sofas Don’t Fit
Artificial Plants
Where do we even begin with this one? An artificial plant in your living room is not the best choice as it spells lifelessness and negative energy. If you cannot add a real plant to your space, then go without one. You can probably add cactus to bring a little color and life. Put it this way: how do you feel when you go to a restaurant and find yourself surrounded by fake plants? You might think that your food will not be very authentic.

Artificial Plants
Common Pieces of Art
Complement your living room with a piece of art that no one is used to (if you want to add one) as it is too flat to use a cliche piece. Instead, opt for something that is in the same theme as your living room space. While everyone loves an iconic work of art like Stary Night by Van Gogh, it is so cliche at this point that people will sigh when they enter your home and see it hanging on your wall.

Common Pieces Of Art
Fix the Loose Cables
Of course, we understand cables are needed to connect your different appliances around the living room, but there is no need to show them to the whole world. Get a device you can store them in (check the electronics store!) or push them behind the shelf. There are plenty of DIY hacks that you can put to great use to better organize your cables. If you happen to have fibre in your home, please be incredibly careful with the extremely delicate cable.

Fix The Loose Cables
Ugly Photo Frames
We already know how to feel before coming over to your house, so having some tacky-looking frames giving us messages is not ideal for the living room. Go to the store and find something more suitable – and without emotional messages! While we understand that you love your family, they really do deserve to have their pictures hung up on something prettier than a washing line. Picture frames are not expensive, and they can be easily hung up.

Ugly Photo Frames
Change Your Cushion Colors
Cushions are meant to add a little flavor to your sofa and living room in general. It is therefore boring to use the same color as the sofa for the throw pillows. Get creative with a color scheme and add a little spice and splash. That being said, if you adore the more washed out and monochrome themes then you could simply mix up the more muted colors on your couches to add some kind of subtle variety.

Change Your Cushion Colors
Pallet Coffee Table
If you did a little DIY project with some old pallets by making a coffee table, leave it for the patio out back and do not add it to your living room. Adding it there will only make your space look like a lumber yard. As you can see from the picture below, the addition of a pallet coffee table to a wooden board floor is simply too much. Introduce some other kinds of materials into your home.

Pallet Coffee Table
Ditch the Plastic Drawers
Plastic containers are great for the kitchen, and when you want to store things in your refrigerator. However, it is not cool or beautiful to use plastic drawers in your living room, especially when you are only going to store junk in it. Leave those drawers for your attic or garage. Something like these organizing drawers should only ever be seen in workshops, studios, and offices. No one likes being reminded of work when they’re trying to unwind!

Ditch The Plastic Drawers
Matching Curtains
Okay, we understand you may want to be unique, but the idea of matching the curtains with the sofa is plain unsightly. Create a color-coded harmony in your living room by adding a matching color instead of the same material. The 60s ended many years ago, and no one likes that psychedelic flood of visually overwhelming weirdness anymore. Try not to make your home appear like a cheap motel where someone was murdered and spice things up!

Matching Curtains
Leave the Vintage Wall Decors Out
You may have been a fan of figures like Big Mouth Billy Bass, but that does not mean you should have it hanging on your living room wall. It is too old for a time as this so hang it in another room if you desire. If you have a partner, father, or brother that is struggling to part ways with this noisy and ugly nuisance, you may need to have an intervention as soon as possible.

Leave The Vintage Wall Decors Out
Frame-less Photos are Distasteful
We understand some people like to be creative and different, but if your idea leaves you to add pictures to the wall without a frame, it is a bad idea. Get a frame for them, and it will look less immature and tacky. This really does look like some preschoolers’ art project, which is a pity, because the wooden tiles are a nice touch that could be put to much better and more creative use.

Frame Less Photos Are Distasteful
Crime-Scene Living Room
If you leave the plastic on your sofa in the living room, we will be blunt with you and say it looks like a crime scene. We know kids can be a little messy, but don’t spoil your living space because of that. Your home is meant to be enjoyed, and your visitors will not feel welcome if you make it clear that you view them as a threat to your furniture. It’s time to ditch the plastic!

Crime Scene Living Room
Put Some Curtain Up
Everyone cherishes privacy, so leaving your windows without curtains is not so cute even though we respect the fact you want natural light to get in. But, add blinds, and it will work out a lot better. This is a European trend that Americans seem to have been inspired by, where people are under the impression that total domestic transparency is a virtue. No one wants to see inside your home unless they want to see if there’s anything worth stealing!

Put Some Curtain Up
Barn Doors Look Ridiculous
No. That is the only word that you will ever need to read or hear when asking if inserting oversized, garish barn doors into your perfectly pretty home is a good idea or not. Let us start by asking – do you live in a barn? If no, then the idea of having barn doors in your house is a terrible one. The trend has been making waves on Pinterest, and we can’t see nor understand how.

Barn Doors Look Ridiculous
Don’t Drown the Sofa with Pillows
Throws pillows are used to complement, but that too much can throw everything off balance. Instead, adding 1-3 pillows will not make the sofa look too cluttered. This is another way to tell people without a word that your home is not to be disturbed and is more of a museum than a haven. No one likes having to unearth their own couch by spending a few minutes rescuing it. Thrown pillows have been known to break delicates.

Don’t Drown The Sofa With Pillows
Don’t Go Shaggy
Shaggy carpets are not a big trend of today as they were in the 70s, so you may want to leave them out of your living room. If you must have a little shag around, your throw pillows can take this on or maybe your bedroom. If you suffer from allergies, then a shaggy carpet is a guaranteed way to live in a perpetual sneeze attack, given that they attract more dust than a Land Rover in the dessert.

Don’t Go Shaggy
The Wallpaper
Don’t turn your living room into a bed and breakfast area like those located in the heart of New England. It is best to leave the Chintz wallpaper out of the decor plans as it only creates a clustered feeling. While ‘cottagecore’ has become incredibly popular in modern times, where people have begun redesigning their homes to like like old country houses, rather leave this look to actual cottages. Minimalism makes space breathe, especially if you live in an apartment.

The Wallpaper
Furniture Skirts
Don’t give your living room a vintage look by adding ruffled skirts to furniture. It will leave the area too clustered and stiff. You should opt for plain straight skirts if you added some. This is one of the ugliest ways to make your home appear like something that escaped a bombing raid during World War II. Skirts will also become dirty quickly and will build up unwanted dust and pet hair as animals love to snuggle the material.

Furniture Skirts
Don’t Go Gold
Times have changed tremendously from the age-old gold fixtures decking every room in the house. They are not as interesting as they were before, so adjusting the style of your living room is a great idea. That being said, a bit of gold can certainly make a statement and bring a bit of a “wow” factor to a space. Just make sure that gold would go with your overall theme, as there are plenty of ways to make gold seem kitsch if it does not flow with the rest of the ambiance.

Don’t Go Gold
Wooden Duck Decorations
If you are a collector of duck ornaments and other similar ones, then we will understand the addition. However, if you add them there as a decorative element, it is best to replace them will more attractive ones to give your living room a personality of beauty and elegance. Wooden ducks are adorable, but they are sadly associated with elders and ancient history. You might enjoy painting plain ones yourself, and that is a perfectly acceptable hobby, provided it stays in the shed.

Wooden Duck Decorations
No Wooden Panels
If you love wood that much to add wooden panels to your living room, then you need to relocate to a log cabin. They were not even cool in earlier times, much more to be now – ditch them. Wooden panels are certain to make your home look like something from the 70s, and unless you allow smoking within your house, you should go for stone or brick. The Scandinavians know how to make it work, however.

No Wooden Panels
Make Your Living Room Steady
Do not, in any case, make your living room, a space with mismatched colors and patterns as it can throw everything off. The saying “less is more” is best to make your relaxation and unwinding moment much better. You do not want to have a jarring lack of flow to your room, where the eyes cannot decide what to look at. Rather, you want the viewer to sweep around the room in a pleasant and smooth manner.

Make Your Living Room Steady
No to the Wooden Blanket Ladders
We believe you may want to have a rustic look in your living room, but having a wooden blanket ladder is not the best choice. It looks weird and tacky for that space and also distasteful. Keep your blankets neatly folded on the couch for a cozy effect. Many people also hang wet towels after using the shower or bath on ladders like these, which is also a big no-no, as towels should be safely stored on ordinary racks within the bathroom.

No To The Wooden Blanket Ladders
Haunted Room
You can turn your living room into the perfect haunted space by adding some mounted taxidermy or animal skulls to the wall. Leave your love the Beauty and the Beast out of the central room. Many people will find items like these disturbing or upsetting, and will not share your enthusiasm for hunting. Mounting your hunting trophies will turn any home as a whole into a ghastly place that few people (other than hunters) will want to stay in for long.

Haunted Room
Age-Old Lampshade
When you realize you have a lampshade from the ages of old – like 40 years ago – don’t think of adding it to the living room. You may not have to replace the entire lamp but bring flavor with a better and more modern shade – one that will complement the space. Ancient lampshades simply make one feel like a home is dirty and dusty. It is also difficult to find old-school lampshades that are in good condition, and yours may be worse for wear.

Age Old Lampshade
The Live-Laugh-Love Sign
We understand you want to spread a message of love and positivity, but the cliched “Live, Laugh, Love” signs are a big no-no for your living room. These are incredibly lame and tacky, with a terrible stereotype attached of the ‘Karen’, which no one wants to be associated with. People will think that you have no taste or culture if they see these signs in your home. Go for some less flat and rather choose a piece of art that spreads comfort and serenity.

The Live Laugh Love Sign
Dash Space
You might be a collector of items, especially if you travel a lot, but it shouldn’t be a case where you feel comfortable enough to add them to your living room. It will only create an untidy and cluttered living room and, they will gather lots of dust and give you additional work. The claustrophobic effect of having far too many items jammed into one space is unpleasant, and you can bet that each item will gather a lot of dust. Maybe it is time to list some of your collections on eBay?

Dash Space
Frame Those Posters
We know how teenagers can deck their bedroom walls with all kinds of posters and, of course, they are untidy. Do not make your living room similar to these messy rooms. If you must hang your poster, get a frame for it. You could also add some fairy lights to the poster’s borders if you do not feel like splashing out on a large wooden frame, but why not honor an amazing band like The Beatles properly?

Frame Those Posters
Choose a Glass Table with Style
Just imagine glass tables being tacky years ago, and then you add one or more to your living room…what do you expect will happen? Choose something else to be your living room coffee table. Glass tables are also quite a fragile hazard, and could easily lead to disaster when a child accidentally falls into one. As you can see in the picture below, the sparkling glass table has been paired with an awful, shabby red rug.

Choose A Glass Table With Style
Color-Changing Lamps
Color-changing lights are best for the nightclub and not your living room. We want to come over and relax and not be in a disco room with annoying lights changing every minute. Then again, you might be a serious gamer or streamer, and that is part of the overall ‘elite gamer’ aesthetic. Folks such as these will have an incredibly gaudy color-changing light setup. To avoid falling into this garish pitfall, stick to soft, amber light.

Color Changing Lamps
The Tapestries
If you own a tapestry, you may want to keep it in your bedroom and not in the living room. It makes the space too busy and has this outdated look though you may want to consider it boho-chic. Hippies, spiritual types, and those that want to change their living rooms into yoga studios will have all manner of funky tapestries hanging about the place. Unless you want everyone to know that you worship crystals, consider changing things up more conventionally.

The Tapestries
Bookcase-Style Wallpaper
For those bookworms who always want to be around books, having a shelf with your collection is more suitable for your living room than having wallpaper with a bookshelf design installed. It makes your space looks like a library, and we are sure you don’t want that. It also does not look very convincing, as people will not believe that you have read that many books unless the real things are being held in your own personal library.

Bookcase Style Wallpaper
Wordy Wall Decals
Wall Decals are cool, but when they are the types with words all over them, you may want to leave them out of the living room. To make the feeling worse, let it dictate what should be done in the room like reading, laugh or play, etc. Nothing fills up too much space than is warranted than an enormous body of text stuck to your wall. You could, however, play around with a picture of your room to see if any kind of text would look good in your room.

Wordy Wall Decals
Busy Patterns
Don’t use chevron patterns in your living room, as this creates a space that looks too busy and complicated. Rather, go for a less combusted style that will complement and bring that level of peace to your room. Let your guests feel welcome when they step inside. A room is supposed to make a person feel calm and welcome, rather than on edge. Harsh, zig-zag patterns like the one seen in the pictured rug are a big no-no.

Busy Patterns
Hospital Room
For those who think an all-white living room is a beautiful thing, you must have spent a lot of time in the hospital and want to continue in that environment. If you want to go simple, you can still do that by adding a dash of color here and there. This washed-out, sanitary look might make everything seem incredibly clean, but you will lose too much aesthetic goodness as a result. Bring the rainbow back into your life!

Hospital Room
The Wrong Sofa
For most interior decorators, they will agree with the fact that the perfect sofa is the only thing you need to make your living room an interesting space truly. Going for one that is too big or small will through off the whole feel of the room. This means that you should not feel bad for making your sofa the most expensive investment for a wonderful living room. Make sure that it is comfortable, too!

The Wrong Sofa
Shop Around
When you buy all your furniture in one place, you will get the feeling that you live in a showroom. Mix your choices softly by shopping around, so it looks like someone lives there, and it is not just a furniture store. You want your home to look and feel lived in, rather than an advertisement for whatever store you decided to represent. That being said, there are some stores that offer such phenomenal selections that we would not fault you for solely subscribing to them!

Shop Around
Poor Layout
Most of us are accustomed to putting our sofa in a position that faces the television, but did you know it may not be the best? Bear in mind the living room us a place to group up and chat with friends and family, so you want to get the seating to suit that style as well. People are starting to move away from television-centric living rooms to foster a more sociable and entertaining space.

Poor Layout
Hang Your Arts Right
Hanging a special piece of art in the wrong position can let others go by it without noticing, and that’s not so good. When you have too many paintings in one place, it is untidy, unsightly, and distracts from the ambiance you are trying to create in your living room. Don’t turn the space into an art gallery. Remember that your wall is a work of art itself, that should have plenty of prominence in your home.

Hang Your Arts Right
“Live” in Your Living Room
When you step into a living room, you should feel relaxed and welcomed and gives that cozy feeling. You don’t want it to feel like that space where people don’t feel comfortable to sit and mingle because everywhere looks too “in place” and perfect. Unless you want your intense and intellectual personality to come through with a bare and spacious minimal look, you should try and make your home feel inviting and a place where people are actually wanted.

Live In Your Living Room
The Matching Game
Don’t make your home’s interior design look outdated and boring, even if the architecture is from a long time ago. You can have a modern look even when the outside is not too modern. You will be amazed at how modernizing a chic set of furniture, lights, and curtains and rugs will make a room feel, even if it was constructed long before any of these items were in fashion. Be bold and trust yourself!

The Matching Game
Measure Before You Buy
Every too often, we see people going out to buy furniture without measuring the space they have available. When choosing sofas and chairs, ensure you are aware of the space you have to use, so it doesn’t throw off balance in the decoration. Imagine this: you ask some friends to help you lug an enormous couch that you bought on an impulse (thanks to a once-off online sale) into your living room, only to find that it does not fit in.

Measure Before You Buy
Wrong Fabric
You don’t want to go for silk rugs because they will only create a mess when they come in contact with lots of people moving on them. Instead, you want to go for hard-wearing fabric when buying rugs for the living room. After all, lots of feet will be moving through this space. If your rug is in a living room that has doors leading into the garden, then you can bet that pets, kids, and guests at a backyard barbecue will traipse in enough mud to ruin that expensive silk beauty.

Wrong Fabric
Throw Out The Old
Don’t let your living room look like it exists in the 40s, so you will want to ditch the ornate sofas and other decors. You can be sure that your old-school furniture will fetch a pretty penny at a local auction, or on an online auction site like eBay, although shipping might be too expensive for what it’s worth. Your sofa is the life of the living room, so keeping it simple, yet modern goes a far way

Throw Out The Old
The Right Coffee Table
Your coffee table needs to be a stand-out in your living room secondly after your sofa. You want to ensure it is the right size and shape to coordinate your other furniture and decor styles. There are plenty of options, but one of the best style ideas that we have seen is the one in the picture below, where this person cleverly purchased several smaller coffee tables. This allows for different places to put coffee and snacks without taking up too much space.

The Right Coffee Table
Cheapness Will Give a Cheap Look
If you choose some cheap art for your living room, you risk giving your space a cheap look. Sure enough, there are other affordable ways to gain pieces of art that stand out and bring some level of class and elegance to your space. Even a cheaper painting bought from a curio shop or antique store from an obscure artist will look so much better than some image you printed off Pinterest. That goes for random prints, too.

Cheapness Will Give A Cheap Look
Poor Hanging Curtains
Curtains are great and can bring life to your living room. However, if you don’t pay attention to hanging your curtains correctly and efficiently, your living room will only look bad and unkempt. Make sure that you loop the hooks onto their handles carefully, ensuring that each attachment is correctly spaced out. If your curtain is too thin material-wise, you might suffer too much light pouring in. Too thick, and you risk suffocating your room of enough natural light when the curtain is closed.

Poor Hanging Curtains
Bad Lighting
The right lighting in your living room can give a warm and satisfying feeling and lets your guests feel comfortable. Don’t go for fluorescent bulbs, and if your lighting is bad as it is…it’s time to change it. A soft and warm light, the kind that you see in fancy restaurants, is the perfect volume for the perfect date night. After a day spent in front of a computer screen, you want your evening lightning to be pleasant and unobtrusive.

Bad Lighting
Don’t Over Accessorize
We understand some of your ornaments might be expensive, but when you have too many scattered around your living room, it can throw it off balance and makes it look untidy. You should consider removing some of them or grouping them in a cute style. Books are a big offender when it comes to clutter, where bookworms will happily stuff every nook and cranny with novels, encyclopedias, and miscellaneous works. Keep your books in your library!

Don’t Over Accessorize
Off the Wall
Most of us tend to line our furniture against the wall, but this only gives a flat and boring look. Consider moving some of them like your accent chairs or sofa closer to the center of the room and create a different and flexible feel. You might also find that you bang your head against the wall every time that you fall down too quickly into the couch, making the most comfortable part of your home a nightmare.

Off The Wall
Uncomfortable Sofa
Don’t just buy a sofa because it looks cute and matches the paint in your living room. Instead, check to see if it is comfortable as this will go a far way. Why have a sofa that is just uncomfortable and not enticing? As you can see from the attached picture, some people have some incredible sci-fi-inspired tastes that might look incredible, but are not very comfortable or accommodating. Make your space a welcoming and warm place for all to enjoy.

Uncomfortable Sofa
A Theatre?
A lot of people have their TVs in the living room and center their sofas only to sit and watch. Though the living room is a place to chill and get entertained, you want it to be more than just the room to watch a movie. A bulky sound system like the one in the attached picture will not only take up far too much space, but will have you evicted in no time after the neighbors complain too often.

A Theatre
Don’t Decorate for Now Only
When you are buying furniture, ensure you plan a few years down the line, especially if you have plans to expand your family with kids. Make your furniture family-friendly and suitable for all members. You might think that you have everything that you need when you are single or are dating, only to have serious regrets years down the line when you begin planning your family life with your other half. Dogs also need a comfortable place to relax in!

Don’t Decorate For Now Only
Consider Long-Lasting
All human-made items will wear and tear after a while, but going for high-quality and long-lasting furniture is best. You want to ensure when shopping, you test and assess the material you are choosing in your furniture. When it comes to durable materials, canvas and microfiber are among the most long-lasting and will survive much wear and tear throughout the years. If you cannot live without linen or cotton, then you need to ensure that they have been tightly woven.

Consider Long Lasting
Consider Painting Last
People often paint the moment they move into a new apartment to give a fresh look, but then they cannot find the right decor elements to match up, so there will be a conflict. It is easier to find paint to match a piece of select furniture than the other way around, so you may want to hold out on painting. This is an essential bit of advice for anyone purchasing a new home, as you may find that your tastes change along the line, long after your arduous painting process.

Consider Painting Last
Don’t Focus on Trends
Going for what is trending can be good but not the best way to decorate your living room. It is not a great idea to go for trends when the style doesn’t generally fit your space, as this will only leave it disorganized and confusing. In today’s digital age, there are so many ‘trends’ being pushed by various reputable websites that it is hard to tell what is actually in, and even if it is a popular choice, will it actually stay in fashion for a long enough time?

Don’t Focus On Trends
Lighting Matters
Having the right light in your room gives a fresh and satisfying feeling. You want to ensure you don’t go too bright, too dull, or even choose the wrong color. Poor lighting can throw off the balance and ambiance of the room, so you want to avoid this from happening and test out which is best. If your lighting is too bright, then you will find yourself squinting at the washed-out colors of an otherwise beautiful space.

Lighting Matters
Don’t Go Catalogue-Style
It can be awry when you step into someone’s living room and have the feeling you have entered the showroom of a furniture store. You don’t want to bring to life the styles seen in those design magazines, so mix it up a little. Go for unique pieces of furniture and add a flair of personal touch to your space. Don’t get us wrong, some catalogs often provide a complete picture when it comes to decoration ideas, but you don’t want your individuality to be lost.

Don’t Go Catalogue Style
Be Flexible with Your Theme
We understand you may want to have a theme for your living space, but you should be mindful not to go too far with it. One theme can be flat and doesn’t lift the room so you can go diverse and mix it up a little. A room like the one in the picture below pushed the African safari theme a bit too hard, making it to obvious that this is what the owner was going for.

Be Flexible With Your Theme
Not Connecting
When you step into a room and are not sure what you are looking at or where to focus, then it means the decor has no focal point and that in itself is a problem. This setting can leave anyone overwhelmed and confused, so you want to ensure the design and decor connects at a point or in multiple ways. A room like the one in the picture below has far too many zany elements that make a bizarrely surreal theme that no one can really understand or appreciate.

Not Connecting
Use Up the Dead Space
When you line all your furniture against the wall, you leave a space in the center that has nothing complimenting it. But, this can easily be fixed. You can shove around a few pieces of the furniture to use up this space and bring some “light” to the room. This does not mean that you need to bring a whole new room’s worth of furniture in, as just a few new pieces can complete and tie the whole room together in a pleasing way.

Use Up The Dead Space
Go Color-Code
You may want to add a dash of various colors in your living room, but ensure you don’t go overboard with clashing colors as this will throw the room completely off. Ensure the colors coordinate. This does not mean that you should shy away from bringing your inner rainbow out, but make sure that you do not mix things up to the point that things do not complement one another. We love seeing creative but tidy rooms.

Go Color Code
Vintage – Too Deep
There is nothing wrong with going for a few pieces of vintage furniture, but when you go too deep, your room will look like a space that was created in the 60s or 70s and hasn’t been touched since. Mix it up and add a tip of personality. There are plenty of elements that we think should be preserved from the 60s and 70s, but given how far we have come in the past several decades, we think that you could do so much better.

Vintage Too Deep
Ditch Boredom
Having your room in a simple design can be great, but when you go too monotone, it will end up being boring and unsatisfying. You don’t want to go overboard with this style, so mixing and going flexible will help you a lot. You do not want people feeling like they have stepped into a set straight out of the Twilight Zone when they enter your room, where it feels like all the color in the world has been magically drained out.

Ditch Boredom
Bold Choices
You don’t want to go too bold when it comes to decorating your space because it can make the room a little bit too overwhelming and confusing. Like this bathroom, it is too much for the eyes to love and be pleased with. While we do not doubt that a talented artist spent a lot of time putting their mosaic skills to good use, the vibrant and super-detailed bath area painfully clashes with the black and orange walls.

Bold Choices
Too Modern
While a modern look may be a great way to complement your home, going too far into the future is not such a good thing. Mixing the decor is great and will give a more diverse look. Take this glass toilet, for example. We have no idea who decided that our private bathroom business needed to be shown to the rest of the world. Let’s face reality…who will feel comfortable to use a “see-through” toilet? We won’t!

Too Modern
Padded Furniture
We will say this by thought is weird, much less to have it happen in reality. There is no way you want to have your cupboards padded with different fabric as it is rather unsightly and not so interesting. You can have a great design but know what fits well in each room. Your home should never feel like a padded cell. That being said, not having to crack your head on an open cupboard door might be worth the hideousness.

Padded Furniture
Let Your Mural Bring Life
When you decide to add a mural to your home, it should bring a relaxing feeling to your guest instead of having them ‘side-eye” with confusing and a weird look. Like this mural, it is rather creepy than comforting and does not make one feel welcomed. This Michaelangelo-inspired wonder does nothing but give guests the creeps, which is a great pity, as we are sure that it cost a lot of money to bring to life.

Let Your Mural Bring Life
Limit Fabric Use
Fabric in the home has its benefits, but when you go overboard, it is not such a good idea. Just imagine you have stairs which are padded with some furry fabric – it must be annoying to clean and maintain. The spiral staircase pictured might be safer to fall down than wood or stone, but the comfort that it brings is not worth the hideousness. Keep fabric well aware from stairscases and other important thoroughfairs.
