The dedicated mailman will happily take things a step further if they get out of hand and will let the homeowner know the situation. He isn’t going to take any chances with the yellowjacket residents, and he leaves notes informing the owners that he will not be working in their property until the nests are gone.

Beyond mailmen, ordinary folks also use dryer sheets to keep their mailboxes (hopefully) safe. Staci Hoppes posted on Facebook in 2019 to inform her followers about the sweet-smelling hack. In her case, she was taking on an ant infestation that had erupted in her mailbox. She was also interviewed by Today, where she assured the interviewer that she has not seen a single ant since. Take that, scientists! Even if the science is sketchy, it does seem to work.
