It wouldn’t be long before Heidi would begin telling others about the new man in her life. Heidi and her mom Kay talked regularly during the course of any given week, so Ed eventually came up in the conversation. Kay was aware that her daughter was sensitive, and for whatever reason, she started feeling a little concerned when hearing her daughter talk about Ed so enthusiastically. Call it a mother’s intuition, even if nothing alarming had been said.

At her core, Kay wondered if this man was the right fit for her daughter. Holding back her opinion initially, she reminded herself that her daughter was an adult and that she could make her own decisions. That teenage girl had long grown up, and it was not the mother’s place to control her. At the end of the day, being a mom means worrying more than everyone else, and she was OK with that.
