Constructions Mistakes That Will Keep You Wondering

Published on 10/31/2019

In any industry, there will be ‘professionals’ who might have benefited from a bit more training and guidance before they were allowed to pick up a hammer. Everyone has an off day here and there, although in certain professions there is simply no room for error; construction being one of them. However, this list of incredibly funny construction mistakes proves that even an entire team of professionals can make fundamental errors. Time to get cracking!

Simply Unreal

We can only hope that any parent passing this park will notice what’s wrong before allowing their children to play; unless they really don’t like their children of course, in which case it is perfect! Not only are there quite a few large pits in the ground, but we can only hope that these creepy pits don’t actually lead somewhere. It seems like the bottom of this slide’s sudden hard turn was meant to direct a speeding child away from the hole.

Accident Waiting To Happen

Have you ever looked at something and thought, “that’s an accident just waiting to happen?” There’s no denying that this photo is the perfect example of bad planning, or rather, no planning. Clearly, the team of contractors that did this had absolutely no good ideas and we can only hope that anyone driving down this road is extremely cautious… They could have at least tried to place the pole in the middle of the yellow line!

Can’t Fix It With Rocks

The contractor on the job here must have noticed something was very wrong with the placement of this pole and decided to make it a bit less dangerous for bikers. However, this situation clearly cannot be fixed with a pile of rocks. Logically, this poor planning, actually made the problem even more of a problem! Hopefully, the rocks were just a temporary solution before the real work began. At least they would not have a hard time finding the spot again.

Mystery Door

This photo raises many questions, such as, what could possibly be behind that door? Clearly, no one is allowed in or out of that room and contractors installed a railing to make that extremely clear! It seems that the head builder’s mother-in-law was conveniently taken care of when they constructed this person’s home. Can you imagine hearing pounding and moaning coming from this barred-off room at night? You might want something sturdier than a railing…

Mystery Door

Mystery Door

No Stairs

Walking out this door must be quite a frightening experience, considering you would probably fall about five feet. We can only wonder if there were never any stairs installed here, or if they were perhaps removed to give the residence daily anxiety… If you want to enter this building, you might need to take inspiration from a certain Italian plumber and jump as high as possible. It seems like the spooky window beneath the doorway was far more important than the stairs.

No Stairs

No Stairs

Some Stairs Lead To Nowhere

Perhaps these are the stairs missing from the previous photo? Some doors have no stairs and some stairs have no doors, apparently, you can’t have your cake and eat it too! You cannot help but feel that this staircase was constructed as an afterthought without anyone really knowing where it was supposed to go. Maybe there is some secret entrance that we are not aware of? We are sure that many have tried to find it.

Extra Manholes

Good heavens, someone was desperate to get into the sewers! At least anyone that needs to get down into the underworld of a city has plenty of entrance choices. Just one manhole is usually enough for an entire block, although, perhaps there were quite a few extra manholes leftover and this team of construction workers thought they would go above and beyond by installing them all in one place. Sometimes, efforts to impress have the complete opposite effect.

A Bit Of A Problem

Installing a door handle is probably one of the most simple tasks out there, although, clearly you should not underestimate the task and assign it to someone that does not know their left side from their right side. Luckily, this problem can be fixed quite easily. Or so one would think, as we cannot help but feel that his picture was taken a long time after this hilarious mistake was made. Seriously though, this is a real security threat!

Challenging Entry

Considering this questionable door placing is located at a United States Air Force base, perhaps it could be part of the training. Only those who can climb twelve feet up these bricks are allowed into this mysterious room… The handsome soldiers seem quite amused with the whole thing, but they might not be laughing if they ever get in trouble with a superior officer, who commands them to reach the mysterious red door. Spooky stuff!

Emergency Hazard

If a fire breaks out in this building, everyone will be able to rush to the fire exit and make it out with a few broken bones. Perhaps whoever confirmed this should reevaluate the safety reasons behind having a fire exit in the first place! The irony of a dangerous emergency exit did not escape us, and when you need to choose between burning alive or falling a few stories, the emergency becomes all too real.

All The Residents Are Doomed

Maybe this is a hotel specifically for the adventurous type. If it’s not, all the residents and guests are doomed to stay inside for eternity. If you decide to stay here it would be wise to pick a floor nearest to the ground as that seems to be the safest solution, unless you have some sort of high-tech mini aircraft. Maybe the cable has something to do with the exits? Perhaps the residents are supposed to zipline their way down to safety.

Parkour Course

No, this is not an optical illusion, but it still hurts our eyes to look at it! This can only be a parkour course specially designed for thrill-seekers. Why else would there be 20 stairs leading to a brick wall? Anyone venturing up these stairs to see what’s at the top will be extremely disappointed, although, a little cardio never hurt anyone! Get ready to vault over railings if you want to visit anyone living on the higher floors.

Parkour Course

No Curb Appeal

It is illegal to park in front of driveways, but these builders seemed to care little for that rule when they placed an enormous streetlight right in front of someone’s garage. While most of us look forward to the end of a long day at work and simply cannot wait to drive up the driveway to finally be home, whoever lives here must feel a bit different. Thanks to a careless contractor, using the driveway to park your car here is not a suitable option. What’s more, this property now has absolutely no curb appeal!

Don’t Exit Through That Door!

If you are a visitor in this building and someone warns you not to use a specific door, it would be wise not to question it. Exiting this door will leave you with more than just a few broken bones… Let’s hope they keep it locked! Someone could at least put a sign there warning people not to use the door, especially if no one has any plans to undo their madness in the near future.

A Series Of Poor Decisions

The contractors working on this job were clearly “on the wrong track” with their planning. The problem may be obvious to the regular passerby; however, the contractors obviously thought no one would notice! Maybe there were a whole lot of extra train tracks… In all seriousness, train wrecks are no joke, and we sincerely hope that this track is out of commission. If not, one load of passengers is in for the ride of their lives.

A Series Of Poor Decisions

That’s Not How It Works

Whoever installed this fixture must have been a new plumber. What’s more, whoever installed this fixture should probably opt for a different trade. If you need to wash your hands you will have to wash them on the floor thanks to this ingenious idea! Maybe this is some tradition in a culture that we know very little about? While we would hate to offend anyone, this doesn’t seem to be a good idea in any language.

That’s Not How It Works

Not A Double Garage

Imagine the disappointment after purchasing a property that is said to have a double garage only to discover that it really does not. There’s absolutely no chance of parking two cars here. There is really no fixing this construction mistake without spending a fortune on moving the garage to a more suitable location. That being said, some of the more expert drivers among us could pull off the parking job of a lifetime with some seriously tight manouvers!

Stairway For Wizards Only

What’s the point of being a wizard if no one gives you the chance to show off your magical skills? This must be why there is such an awkward stairway to the ceiling installed here… Us normal folk can only wonder what must be up there, if not a Hogwarts classroom. For those that missed the reference, the magical school called Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books has stairways that spontaneously move around, often leading nowhere.

Stairway For Wizards Only

Splash Prevention

This must be one of the strangest bathroom installations yet unless it’s a new design for splash prevention. There really is no other explanation as to why any contractor would conclude that this bathroom design is actually plausible. When you order a toilet and a urinal in a tight space, you get what you asked for, just not in the most practical way. At least you have plenty of options when you need to go.

Once A Door, Now A Window

At first sight, this may look like a very odd window design, although further inspection reveals that it was probably once a door. Otherwise, maybe the property owner decided the window needed its very own special steps and pillars to properly frame it! Some people might be under the impression that windows make for far more practical entryways than doors. Or, maybe this is a training course for cat burglars? We cannot really make any sense of this decision.

Must Be A Simulation Game

This must be an image from one of those simulation games where you have to design an entire city. There is hardly another plausible reason behind this badly planned construction work. Hopefully, contractors are working towards fixing this mammoth mistake. Even if you were playing SimCity, this would severely inconvenience your digital citizens. Safely entering and exiting this complex would be a nightmare with a massive highway to contend with. The noise must also be awful!

In The Face Of Danger

Smoking right next to a gas tank has never been a safe idea, even if you are wearing the American flag on your hard hat… This might be part of an anti-smoking campaign, at least we hope that it is. If not, then someone might find this American flag-themed hard hat several miles away from this worksite. Some workers take serious liberties with on-site safety regulations, and smoking near hazardous areas is a real lunchtime thrill.

When The Job Needs To Get Done

There are times when an important job simply needs to be done even though proper equipment is not yet available. However, this should not be one of those times. Improving often leads to disaster when construction jobs are the topic in question. Proper equipment exists for a very good reason! It’s far too late for these guys to heed the proper advice, so Mr. Yellow Cap better keep a firm grip on his buddy’s ankles!

Not The Best Idea

Unfortunately, common sense is not something everyone has instant access to. This photo is the perfect example of a bad idea that will inevitably result in a painful disaster. We can only hope and pray that this machine is not plugged in and these men are simply joking… We have been inspired by this deadly duo and strongly believe that construction worker magic shows need to be a thing. No one knows how to pull off tricks with potentially lethal power tools better, after all!

Diving Is Not Recommended

Clearly, this man is disappointed for obvious reasons. What is the point of having a pool and a diving board if they cannot be used? Unfortunately, he will have to just sit where he is and be very, very careful. All the blue actually makes it seem as though this pool is not empty, must have been why this young man ended up here in the first place… This looks like one of those ‘cursed images’. The cheap fabric meant to imitate proper tiling, the empty pool, the bright blue fencing, and the filthy diving board… all are disturbing!

Mountain Driveway

This is truly a mountain of a driveway! Imagine having to walk up this steep hill just to get home. It could be concluded that the family living here all have extremely strong legs unless they also have a powerful truck. Driving in and out here suggests that new brakes are always a priority, considering you might drive right through the garage or destroy your car driving into oncoming traffic… At least it makes for an awesome skate ramp.

Mountain Driveway

Mountain Driveway

Manual Drill

While we don’t know exactly why these people are drilling into the ground, we do know that this is really not how a drill is used. Logic suggests that only one person would need to hold the drill and apply a bit of pressure to get the job done. These guys seem to be manually turning the drill together. This is a bad decision that could take the whole day… At least they have earmuffs!

Manual Drill

Manual Drill

Ghostly Emergency

Unless you have the ability to walk through walls, it might be an idea to memorize the exact position of the door to this room. If an alarm was to go off in the dead of the night, making a terrified dive for the space below one of the bright EXIT signs, and with probably only one eye half-open, will end badly. If you look closely at the two EXIT signs, they both point into the corner.

Just Like In Harry Potter

Ghostly Emergency

In fact, before switching lights off to turn in for the night, you might want to be sure that the door in the picture does actually lead to an escape route. At least the designers of this wondrous room had the foresight to place the door-handles at a height that one could reach while racing across the room on all fours!

When is A Pool Not A Pool?

Clearly, not a lot of maintenance happens at this establishment. Considering the pavement needs a good scraping and a coat of paint but how about the algae in the pool! Oh, it’s been filled in? That might have warranted a mention in the motel brochure! So, the idea of passing the day, or even just a few hours, with inexpensive lounging about the pool, or even children entertaining themselves in it, was now probably going to become an expensive visit to the mall.

A Pool But Not Really

When is A Pool Not A Pool?

Perhaps though, as the steps and handrails are still in place, they intend to give the pool a face-lift and use all that soil for landscaping. Until such time, though, if you like to end a hot, sweaty day with a cooling swim, you’ll be needing to look elsewhere.

Not The Best View

Don’t we all, after arriving at our destination in the early hours, wake up in the morning at an exotic location and want to throw back the curtains to take in the view of the sea just beyond swaying palm trees. Not so fast dude, the only view of the palm trees in this hotel requires a walk through the shower to get to the balcony. And then, on the other side of the swaying fronds is… another building.

Enjoy The View After A Shower

Not The Best View

The reason for the architect designing the room layout this way is puzzling, but perhaps rather than lying in bed with a cup of coffee to savor the view, he reckoned it would be better to see while taking a shower. Of course, if you are sharing accommodation, this introduces a whole lot of logistical complications!

A Bit Off

Sometimes the sheer lack of common sense is astounding – at what point in this installation was it not evident to the artisans that something was amiss? Or perhaps the architect designed it this way or the contractor drilled the hole 10 centimeters from the edge instead of 10 millimeters?

A Sink Like No Other

A Bit Off

Surely an easy solution would have been to simply source a tap with a longer spout. Ah well, until that happens at least the constant wiping of water from the counter-top will keep it consistently clean.

Impractical

For those wondering why anyone might have a garage suspended in the air rather than on the ground, perhaps the owners need a place to park their small aircraft. Although, even that reasoning seems quite flawed. Perhaps this is no more than an impractical decision with absolutely no reasoning! This might be part of some Fast and the Furious stunt set, where the stunt driver will ramp off the nearby road and into the garage?

Impractical

Only For The Tall

There’s no saying how tall the guy in this photo is and we can only hope that he is below average height. Otherwise, no one would be able to actually use this ATM. The bank must have had some strange agenda behind this installation, perhaps they are hoping to encourage people to save their money! People that use this ATM are begging to be targeted by criminals, as a thief could easily pick your pockets while you strain to type in your pin.

Useless Gate

A gate without a wall is understandably useless, as clearly seen in this photo. Let’s hope this property is located in a fairly safe neighborhood, as those two tiny bushes really aren’t fooling anyone and the owners of this property are clearly not at all security conscious. This is the kind of security that hopes that burglars are considerate of your pretty hedges. Breaking into someone’s home is one thing, but don’t you dare destroy the flowers!

Useless Gate

Useless Gate

Questionable Balcony

Even though there is a railing surrounding this very questionable balcony, it still seems extremely unsafe. Just imagine the potential destruction should a train come passing. On the other hand, why would anyone think a balcony just two feet off the ground is necessary? Anyone who signs a lease here should definitely be on the lookout for trains if they ever venture onto their balcony. At least you could hitch a ride if you are ever feeling particularly bold!

Make It Work!

Sometimes we can only identify a problem long after the fact, which is clearly what must have happened here. Rather than reinstall all the bathroom fittings and fixtures, this contractor obviously thought he had found a loophole. However, cutting a toilet-shaped hole into the door is not exactly a charming solution for the very obvious problem here! We must give these builders kudos for their hilarious if not extremely lazy creativity! Why fix the problem when you can edit the surroundings?

Make It Work!

Make It Work!

A Bachelor Pad Perhaps?

But not a hotel room! At what point in the design or construction of this bathroom was it seen as appropriate to have a glass door? Even with a single occupant, one would need to remember, if inviting a friend around, to mention that relieving themselves before arriving would be a good idea. Certainly, diuretic drinks would not be wise.

The Honeymoon Ensuite

A Bachelor Pad Perhaps?

But what if it was your company that booked this room for you and a colleague? Every time you saw that person back at the office, sitting at his workstation, this image might return; not right at any level!

Forbidden Room

This is simply too strange. For what reason would this San Francisco hotel decide this room should be condemned? While the method they used for blocking this room off to the public may be strange what’s more curious is what may have happened here…

Pretty Sure That Room Is Cursed

Forbidden Room

However, if you look a little closer, you will notice that there is actually a hinge on the railing that would allow entry to this mystery room. Regardless you should probably not let your curiosity get the best of you in this type of situation. We all know how things end in horror movies!

Hot Showers Aren’t Allowed

There’s something so magical about booking a hotel room and enjoying a long hot shower. Unfortunately, the person that booked this room is only allowed a cold shower.

Hot Showers Are Out Of The Question

Hot Showers Aren’t Allowed

This can only be explained as an effective way to keep the water and heat bills down. Although surely, these kinds of cruel hacks do not belong in hotels! We have seen some seriously mean cost-cutting hacks in hotels, but this one is inhumane! You can bet that someone broke the bar off in a frozen rage.

Translation Issues

One can only hope this poorly translated sign is the only case of translation errors here. While the thought is there, no guests want to be ”slipping carefully.” Note to hotel staff: Google translate just is not an option!

Lost In Translation

Translation Issues

Or maybe this sign is warning guests not to slip and die in the shower. While there really is no knowing what this sign is trying to say perhaps the hotel is merely trying to avoid guests embarrassing themselves with clumsy behavior. If you must fall, at least do so with grace…

Books That Aren’t For Reading

Books hardly have a purpose if not for us to read them. However, here’s a hotel that feels completely otherwise. Books are for display purposes and you should not try and read them! This sign ruins any kind of charm that this shelf might have brought to this hotel by being far too large and rude!

This Is Not A Public Library

Books That Aren’t For Reading

Even though this sign here does seem quite rude, perhaps hotel management got tired of people taking books home with them.

The Hidden Rooms

Imagine trying to find these room numbers after you’ve had a few drinks, even though you would likely have difficulty even if you were fully sober! Hotel staff should really do something about this!

Help Me Find My Room

The Hidden Rooms

Perhaps these room numbers are so well hidden even the staff have been baffled trying to find them… You can be sure that some drunken people were forced to settle for the corridor when their desperate search came to a fruitless end.

Unclear Messages

While the placement of an ashtray usually signals that smoking is allowed in the area, a ‘no smoking’ sign obviously indicates the exact opposite. Here, we can see the staff are unsure whether guests may or may not smoke in this specific room.

Mixed Smoking Signals

Unclear Messages

Maybe this is a subtle way of trying to convince guests to kick the bad habit once and for all. However, no smoker would know what to do when confronted with this confusing ashtray…

Nothing To See Here

It goes without saying that behind every curtain, there is a window. However, in certain situations, such as this one, behind the curtain, there is no more than a boring wall. This reminds us of those Looney Tunes moments where the character runs straight into a wall thinking that it was an exit! Hopefully, the pictured gentleman did not fall for the same trap, but you can be sure that he was highly disturbed to find that his room was a lot more claustrophobic than he had been led to believe.

Nothing To See Here

Extra – Just in Case

Sometimes it is a great idea to go a bit overboard with specific items to make sure there is extra, just in case. However, there is absolutely no logical reason for this many faucets all installed around one sink.

One More For Good Measure

Extra – Just in Case

There are too many things about this photo that are all just too curious, we are not even sure where to start. Why is one of the faucets gold? Why are there shower heads here? What kind of hotel is this? Maybe it’s best not to ask questions…

Another Concrete Pool

Here we can see yet another concrete pool at a hotel. The hotel staff must have gotten tired of all the raucous pool parties and decided concrete would sort the noise issues out once and for all!

Solid Pool

Another Concrete Pool

Or maybe keeping the pool clean was simply too much of a hassle! All those balconies overlooking the gorgeous concrete pool… Hopefully, no guests arrived at night in a drunken state and nosedived into this pool hidden by the darkness.

Stop For Traffic

Construction workers are not always to blame for notable mistakes, as seen in this photo. This is why skipping English class is not recommended… This really does not help anyone trying to stay safe on the road. People might think that ‘SOTP’ is some kind of acronym, like ‘Shout Out To Police’, or ‘Shootout Taking Place’. We think that both these messages need to be added to the standard roadsign collection as they are important declarations.

Show Cupboards

This must be an Airbnb rental. However, this level of deception definitely belongs on our list. Rather than potentially losing bookings to lack of storage space, a brilliant plan was formulated to trick guests into believing space was aplenty! These folks will need to find somewhere else to store their plates and pots. We wonder what other deceptions lay in wait for these guests. You can be sure that a minimal score lay in wait for the owners.

No Storage Space, No Problem

Show Cupboards

However, anyone that experiences something like this should definitely ask for a refund. There really is no point to having display cabinets, unless you own a cabinet store.

For The Supernatural

Ghostly spirits and supernatural entities probably appreciate their very own room to relax in a while watching over the mortal realm. This hotel must be very serious about the type of treatment haunting entities get considering they must have crafted this room, especially for those who can actually float.

Screenshot 7

For The Supernatural

This could be the only partially logical explanation for how this room came to be. Why else would anyone go through the effort of getting those chairs up there?

Insulation Needed

Winter in Montana can be quite chilly. However, this makes it even less excusable for hotels not to have adequate insulation. This is like something out of The Day After Tomorrow! Let’s hope that Jake Gyllenhaal was on his way to rescue these guests.

Screenshot 131

Insulation Needed

The guests staying here during winter are likely disappointed in their choice of hotel. Hopefully, they remembered to pack extra warm clothing, because this is going to be one of the most extreme hotel experiences ever!

Best to Sit In The Front Row

We nearly choked on our buttery popcorn when we saw this photo. This must be beyond disappointing; booking a room in a hotel that boasts its very own cinema room, only to later discover that there is no big screen and merely an ordinary little TV.

Screenshot 19

Best to Sit In The Front Row

Fake advertising strikes again! Hotel owners seem to find fooling the public child’s play… They say that the best view of the screen is from right at the back.

A Lovely View Of The Bricks

This could be expected when you pick the cheapest room in the hotel. You could only expect to have a lovely view of the bricks from your window. Sometimes a small saving is really not worth it at all! This is quite a disturbing thing to find in your hotel room. Let’s just hope that the emergency exits did not receive the same treatment.

Screenshot 27

A Lovely View Of The Bricks

Maybe next time it would be a better idea to spend a bit extra and be able to look at more than, um, bricks.

Definitely No Fires In The Shower

You definitely won’t have to worry about the danger of a fire while you are in the shower in this hotel. That’s because the shower is protected with a fire sprinkler! If you ever need a bit more cleaning power, why not light a cigarette during your next shower here and enjoy the full water pressure of ordinary and emergency services.

Screenshot 29

Definitely No Fires In The Shower

As if the water spraying out of the shower would not be able to put out a fire. Clearly, this hotel takes extra care when considering the safety of their guests.

Really Unnecessary

So, “G” is for Lobby, Reception, Restaurant, and 1st Floor, “1” is for 2nd and 3rd Floor, obviously “2” is for the fourth floor… We honestly have no idea what is happening with this floor setup. It might take one some time to find the right floor, and even then you may have some doubts that you are going where you are supposed to. We would really appreciate it if the hotel manager could clarify how his building works.

Screenshot 30

Really Unnecessary

There is really no logical reasoning behind this. Unless the plan is to ensure guests get very confused…

A Rubbish View

This view is literally rubbish. It may be best to keep the curtains closed if you find yourself checking into this hotel room! We cannot imagine the disappointment and borderline horror that the poor person staying here for an indeterminate amount of time must have felt when he waltzed into this grubby spot. If ‘beautiful views’ was a feature in the description, then you can be sure that a lawsuit was worthy of this deception.

Screenshot 32

A Rubbish View

Leaving the curtains open may be somewhat entertaining. That is if you enjoy the sight of rodents fighting for leftovers…

A Little Bit Of A Big Mistake

Finding your way with the help of this sign may be daunting. Would rooms 201-216 be to the right or to the left? Who knows… Some people just love to make life harder for the rest of us, and ambiguous directions must be some of the biggest wastes of time imaginable. Which way do you think is right? Don’t worry, you can always try again if you didn’t manage to understand the hidden genius of this sign the first time.

Screenshot 33

A Little Bit Of A Big Mistake

Perhaps it would be best to have the guests escorted to their rooms. Or maybe the signs should be replaced so that guests are actually able to find their way?

Bridge Leading To The Ocean

It may initially seem as though several bad decisions happened for this bridge to end up like this, although, the one side is simply higher than the other. Regardless, considering just how many construction workers are standing right next to a dangerous situation, one could only guess just how many safety violations it took for the team to come this far. Can you imagine having to make the jump across during an emergency? This needs to be fixed as soon as possible!

Bridge Leading To The Ocean

Bridge Leading To The Ocean

Awkwardly Placed

Whoever installed these urinals was clearly not considering functionality. Not only is there hardly any room for two men to use these two urinals at the same time, but we can only imagine the sort of splash this would create. The cringe factor in this photo is definitely too much! At least the fellows that use this bathroom will be spoiled for choice, and can quickly mix things up if they need to make an emergency switch.

Awkwardly Placed

Awkwardly Placed

Out Of Order

We all know electricity and water really do not mix. This is why this photo is extremely peculiar. How could water possibly spew from a plug socket, unless, a construction worker made a fundamental mistake? And definitely don’t try and charge your phone in these sockets that is for sure! If there happened to be power in this structure, you can be certain that any part of the puddle would be deadly. Stay well away from this plot!

Out Of Order

No Parking Allowed

While most disabled parking spaces are conveniently located to make parking as simple as possible, this disabled parking is clearly not intended for use. Whether you are disabled or not, this parking space is just not an option. They say that society is becoming more accommodating to the disabled and their needs, but this construction company was clearly ableist. We hope that the municipality dealt with this obstruction and its placer swiftly. Otherwise, you might have a serious lawsuit on your hands.

Just A Little Bit Off

Careful inspection of this oddly placed spiral staircase suggests that the contractors on the job tried their best, although unfortunately, they were just a little bit off with their measurements. We can only hope no one decides to exit the building through any of those doors… Hopefully, the correct platforms will be added in at some stage, but until then, white is a deathly color in this building that everyone needs to stay clear of!
