Stefan took his portion of the winnings, collected his family and left the communism-wrecked Romania and his terrible job at the mine behind. Of course, escaping the iron clutches of communism was not so simple, with Mandel having to bribe foreign ministry officials. His next destination was to be Israel for a while, before heading to Australia, where he would take up his newfound occupation: cheating the lottery! Stefan further improved on his winning formula, making it simpler. He also raised the stakes.
