Cystic fibrosis’s effects can also be alleviated in ways beyond the respiratory system. There are special implantable devices that can be employed to maintain the continuing circumstances in a less invasive manner. Such devices will allow for an easier application of medication to the system. As you can see from the picture below, someone with cystic fibrosis will suffer terribly clogged airways, making breathing a torturously labored experience. We should all appreciate being able to breathe normally more!
Emptying the Lungs
What is known as “Airway Clearance Therapy” is an excellent treatment for cystic fibrosis. It is applied to the patient through physical chest physiotherapy, as well as through a nifty device known as a “VEST”. This contraption allows for a patient to cough up mucus by shifting the substance. As you can see from the picture below, one wears the VEST like a lifejacket of sorts, and breathes through the attached pipe. It all seems quite intense, but it is a necessary procedure.
