Considering the gravity of the issue, I was startled by the outpouring of support for the porch pirates on Reddit. That is, until one of the would-be thieves sues the city for PTSD. That’s what occurred here.

Others who were suspicious about the scenario said “I’m not sure what to make of it.” Putting your life or assets in danger is not something to be worried about. The individual who steals something and then uses it to access its contents is not held liable.
