Water Creatures
Even though the West Indian manatee is one of the most recognizable residents of the Everglades, it is a gentle giant rather than a danger. These creatures stroll around the surface of the water in a sluggish manner, and they may seek out people for both companionship and warmth. Manatees, like most other aquatic animals, feed primarily on aquatic vegetation. Consequently, Bergeron does not have to be concerned about them.

On the other hand, the manatee is considerably more at risk from people than we are from them. They move so slowly that they might become exposed to passing threats because of the sluggishness in their movements. For example, they might be too sluggish to escape being hit by fast-moving boats, which can cause severe injury or death to wildlife in their path.
