Burmese Python
As it turned out, the creature Bergeron found in the basement posed a danger to a large portion of the Everglades’ native animals as well. It was a Burmese python, a kind of snake that had been said to have eaten an alligator whole at one point in history.

The python, which weighed 165 pounds and was almost 16 feet long, was the second biggest Bergeron had ever seen. The snake was just a foot or so short of becoming the longest ever measured in the state, measuring a whopping 40 feet from snout to tail. The fact that the female predator was guarding a nest of at least 50 eggs was perhaps the most horrifying aspect of the situation.
