Although they had not been as close as she would have preferred, Sara’s sister could not help noticing that her distant sister’s ring was missing. Throughout all the trauma, Lydia had failed to notice that her mother’s precious ring was not on her lifeless hand. She was saddened to know that there was no point in searching for the thing. Not that Lydia was very concerned with an object’s place in the grand scheme of things. But as Lydia would later learn, she was connected to the ring in some incredibly unexpected ways.

Despite the cheerless nature of the sendoff, Lydia was satisfied with how she bid farewell to her adored mother. The young woman was struggling to make sense of the situation, but at least she had some peace of mind. It had been a traumatic experience for Lydia, seeing her mother fall deathly ill so quickly, but the funeral was a cathartic moment. It would take a long time for life to get back to normal, and the ensuing events would make it so much harder.
