Askins eventually came upon an old case file belonging to a woman called Marie Pauline Oakley after conducting extensive research. She wed Wiley Albert Oakley in Reno, and the pair quickly became parents to a son whom they called Gordon Micheal Oakley, also known as Mick Myers. Mick Myers later became a famous musician.

Unfortunately, only a few short years after they tied the knot, the couple decided to split. Although Askins learned that the father had passed away, he did not give up his search for the biological mother or the reason she had placed her baby for adoption.

The quest to find Marie wasn’t an easy process. To begin, she had a name that was very common, and according to her age, it’s possible that she wasn’t even still living. This did not stop Askins, and he quickly found himself in contact with a woman in California who shared his name and lived there. It was a long shot, but he had to give it a go.

When Askins contacted the number, he was taken aback to find that Marine Pauline Oakley, who was 85 years old at the time, lived only several miles away and now went by her middle name, Pauline.
