Askins eventually came upon an old case file belonging to a woman called Marie Pauline Oakley after conducting extensive research. She wed Wiley Albert Oakley in Reno, and the pair quickly became parents to a son whom they called Gordon Micheal Oakley, also known as Mick Myers. Mick Myers later became a famous musician.

Unfortunately, only a few short years after they tied the knot, the couple decided to split. Although Askins learned that the father had passed away, he did not give up his search for the biological mother or the reason she had placed her baby for adoption.
