Horace’s and his other vervet monkeys’ journeys are very diverse. This does not imply that his mental development was held down by spending so much time in the sanctuary, as he has never lived in the wild and would have had to constantly be mindful of danger.

In the words of Sarah Carter, one of the reasons Horace was such a brilliant thinker was that he would frequently stare out into the distance while turning a flower, leaf, or twig. The people in his life are still able to get close to him, even if his thoughts are constantly on himself.

It’s important to remember that Horace doesn’t spend all of his time sleeping, playing with cats in the middle of the night, or trying to steal things from the people who work at the sanctuary or the other animals who live there. Even though some of Horace’s actions can be funny, this is something that should be kept in mind.

Horace is very helpful, as shown by the fact that he often takes care of other animals and helps volunteers groom other rescued animals. But now, there are more monkeys at the Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary, so he is no longer the only one being cared for there.
