Baking Goods
Within the Baker’s Corner shop label, Aldi offered a 32-ounce pack of brown sugar for $1.29 (reduced by package total by almost an ounce when put next to the previous year’s offerings); a bag of pure cane sugar weighing at four pounds at $1.99 (a boost of 30 cents); and one pack of all-purpose flour weighing at five pounds for $1.14, which is marginally more affordable than it was last year. On a relative scale, Giant has been known to slap on a double price tag on their related brand-name baking foods: one 32-ounce pack of Domino light brown sugar goes for $1.99 (previously going for $2.68 last year); a bag of Domino pure cane sugar weighing four pounds costing $2.79; and a pack of Pillsbury Best all-purpose flour weighing at five pounds going for $3.19. The shop’s decorated Carlini extra-virgin olive oil weighing at 16.9 ounces went for $2.99 at Aldi, compared to the Bertolli EVOO bottle going for $9.59 at Giant.
According to Tracie Fobes, “Flour, sugar, oils are all great quality and priced very well,” offers the penny-pinching professional over at PennyPinchinMom.com. One generally finds a normal store will solely beat Aldi at affordability when the holidays roll in when they offer the lowest-possible price tags for baking goods.
Bread
One can grab a 20-ounce loaf of Aldi’s L’oven Fresh White Bread at a cracking price of 85 cents. This identically weighed portion of bread goes for 88 cents over at Walmart, within the Great Value flagship label. As for giant, they provide a 22-ounce loaf from their store brand white bread at a price of $1.89.
If you would rather save your cash when purchasing white bread, check out Aldi’s collection of German breads, where 17.6-ounce loaves go for $2.29.
